I’ll share what to bring with you, what to look for using the Urban Field Guide, and a few easy ways to collect textures, colors, photos, patterns, and found details that can spark your next mixed-media project.

In this lesson, we take a creative stroll through downtown Arlington Heights to prove that artistic inspiration can be found anywhere — not just in big cities. You’ll learn how to notice colors, textures, patterns, signs, lights, fonts, and small unexpected details that can become creative fuel for your mixed-media work. Along the way, we’ll gather photos, rubbings, and visual ideas that can be brought back into the studio and used to build a mini mood board full of personality and local inspiration.

Using your photos, rubbings, colors, textures, marks, and found inspiration, you’ll start arranging your pieces in a way that captures the feeling of your outing.
