How I’m Making Tiny Urban Collages

Lately I’ve been making what I’m calling Tiny Urban Collages — little collage studies on paint chips using tracing paper, scraps, and urban-inspired imagery. And the more I make them, the more I love how approachable they feel.

I created a Youtube video so I could share my love for paint chips and tracing paper! Note that I use an inkjet printer which means my ink cures permanently and won’t move around if I use wet mediums. If you have a laser printer, you can spray with a fixative or varnish (it helps a little bit) and use a drier glue, like a glue stick.

These little studies are such a low-pressure way to loosen up and work out some layering ideas. They can turn into bigger projects. I also love using these in my art journals. You can bind them together to make a little book. There are so many fun things that you can do with these. And how cute are tiny things?!

Many of the pieces I used came from a photo that I took in Wicker Park and printed on tracing paper. I share that in the YT video. I am also giving it to my Insiders, along with copies of my Tiny Urban Collages so that you can download and use in your collages. If you are not an Insider yet, just hop over here and sign up. It’s free! The Urban Print Pack will come to you in the 3rd (and last) email in my welcome sequence. I email about twice a month with goodies, art tutorials, etc.

Have fun creating these mini works of art!

(shhh… I may or may not have an addiction to Posca markers. hehe)
